Sweat a lot? Botox can help.

Excessive underarm sweat can be embarrassing and hard to manage for both men and women. The medical term for this condition is known as severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis and affects more than 1 million Americans. What are the options for someone who has tried every possible solution including prescription-strength antiperspirants?

Botox

The FDA approved Botox for the treatment of excessive underarm sweating in 2004. Clinical studies have shown that 81% of those who suffer from excessive underarm sweat that undergo Botox treatment experience a significant decrease in perspiration in the treated areas.

Who is this for?

Anyone can get Botox injections to help control underarm perspiration, but the best candidates are those who:

  • Experience moderate to severe armpit sweating

  • Perspiration can not be controlled by deodorant or antiperspirant

  • Are willing to come in for injections every 3-4 months to maintain results

How does it work?

Each session will take about 10-20 minutes and can be done right here in the office. Botox injected into targeted areas blocks the nerves responsible for activating sweat glands. Sweat glands activate when the body’s temperature rises in order to keep cool but for people who have hyperhidrosis, the nerves that signal the sweat glands are overactive.

When will I notice a difference?

Results can be seen after around a month and a single treatment can last for as long as 3- 6 months, depending on the person’s ability to break down and metabolize the Botox.
